Frequently Asked Questions

How much does FilmFridge cost?
FilmFridge is $4.99 USD, a one-time purchase — no subscriptions or recurring charges. An optional iPad Layout in-app purchase ($0.99 USD, one-time) unlocks a full split-view interface on iPad with a persistent sidebar and side-by-side panels. The standard iPhone layout works on iPad without it — all features and data are identical either way.
Which iPhone and iPad models are supported?
FilmFridge requires iOS 17 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 17 or later on iPad. The Apple Watch companion app requires watchOS 10 or later.
What film formats does FilmFridge support?
FilmFridge supports 35mm, 120, 220, 110, Minox, APS, large format sheets (4×5, 5×7, 8×10), all Instax formats (Mini, Square, Wide), and all Polaroid formats (600, i-Type, SX-70, Go, Polaroid Pack, Polaroid Sheet). Bulk 35mm spool tracking is also available.
How does barcode scanning work?
Tap the barcode icon in the Fridge toolbar and point your camera at the UPC on any film box. FilmFridge looks up the stock against a built-in database of over 500 film stocks and fills in brand, stock name, ISO, format, and exposures automatically. If a stock isn't recognized, you can fill in the details manually — the barcode is saved for future lookups.
Does FilmFridge work offline?
Yes. Your inventory is stored on-device first and always accessible without a connection. Cloud sync sends updates to your other devices when connectivity is available. Barcode lookups require an internet connection.
How do I enable cloud sync?
Go to More → Settings → Cloud Sync and tap Enable Cloud Sync. Enter your email address, tap the sign-in link that arrives in your inbox, and return to the app — sync activates automatically. No password required.
What is Mid-Roll Swap?
Mid-Roll Swap lets you pull a partially-shot roll from a camera and return it to your Fridge without losing track of where you stopped. Enable it in More → Settings → Options, then use the Record Mid-Roll Swap action on any loaded roll. The roll returns to the Fridge with a swap indicator and the frame number you stopped at. You can reload it into any camera later.
Can I track bulk 35mm film loaded from a spool?
Yes. Enable Bulk Roll Film in More → Settings → Options. Add your spool with its footage length, then use the Load Cassette flow to record each batch of cassettes you cut. Footage is deducted automatically and each cassette becomes a regular roll in your Fridge.
Something isn't working. What should I do?
Check the User Guide for troubleshooting steps — it covers the most common issues. If you're still stuck, send us a message with a description of what's happening and which iPhone or iPad model you're using.
